Morocco attracts 4.3 million tourists in first quarter of 2026

Morocco welcomed 4.3 million tourists in the first quarter of 2026, marking a 7% rise from the previous year.

The growth occurred despite global air traffic disruptions and rising travel costs linked to tensions in the Gulf region.

March alone saw an 18% increase in arrivals, the tourism ministry said, signaling a resilient rebound for the sector.

Officials credited the surge to improved air connectivity, broader source markets, and upgraded accommodation and entertainment options nationwide.

Tourism revenue climbed to 21.4 billion dirhams, roughly $2.3 billion, by the end of February, a 22% increase year-on-year.

Morocco topped Africa as the most visited country last year, attracting nearly 20 million tourists in total.

Looking ahead, the nation aims for 26 million visitors by 2030, coinciding with its FIFA World Cup co-hosting role.

The government views enhanced infrastructure and global promotion as key to sustaining growth and bolstering Morocco’s international tourism profile.

Analysts suggest the country’s diverse landscapes and cultural heritage remain major draws for international travellers seeking authentic experiences.

Morocco’s strategic positioning in North Africa continues to strengthen its appeal, bridging European markets with the continent’s emerging travel destinations.
