Mozambique asks IMF to begin talks on fresh lending program

Mozambique has formally requested discussions with the International Monetary Fund regarding a new lending program, an IMF spokesperson announced on Friday.

The spokesperson indicated that these crucial talks are set to commence shortly.

This move aims to better align IMF support with the priorities of Mozambique’s new government and its overarching vision for the nation.

Earlier this year, from February 19th to March 4th, IMF staff conducted a visit to Maputo to assess policy implementation under Mozambique’s existing Extended Credit Facility.

However, both Mozambican authorities and IMF staff reached a mutual agreement to discontinue the reviews under the current program.

This decision was made in light of Mozambique’s expressed desire for a new financial arrangement with the IMF.
