Stellantis has unveiled a significant expansion at its Kenitra plant in western Morocco, more than doubling its vehicle production capacity.
Inaugurated on Wednesday, the newly extended facility will increase annual output from 200,000 to 535,000 vehicles, the company confirmed on Thursday.
The ramp-up includes a major boost in electric microcar production, with models from Citroën, Opel, and Fiat climbing from 20,000 to 70,000 units yearly.
The site will also begin manufacturing 65,000 electric three-wheelers each year, marking a new chapter in Morocco’s electric mobility sector.
Starting in February, the plant will launch new models built on Stellantis’ “Smart Car” platform, designed to streamline production and cut costs.
This innovation alone will double the factory’s base capacity from 200,000 to 400,000 vehicles per year, Stellantis said.
The expansion is set to generate more than 3,000 new jobs, adding to the existing 3,500-strong workforce already employed at the site.
With this move, Stellantis deepens its investment in Morocco, positioning the North African nation as a key player in its global production network.
The Kenitra plant, already seen as a cornerstone of the company’s low-cost manufacturing strategy, now gains even greater strategic importance.
As global demand for electric and affordable compact cars grows, Stellantis appears poised to meet it from the heart of Morocco.
