Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Jordan’s King Abdullah II have called for the urgent reconstruction of Gaza without displacing Palestinians.
The leaders emphasized their commitment to rebuilding Gaza while ensuring that its people remain in their homeland. They reaffirmed the Egyptian-Jordanian position on a ceasefire agreement and the continuation of hostage and detainee releases, alongside facilitating humanitarian aid to the region.
Their joint message came following King Abdullah’s meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington. The two leaders shared their resolve to work closely with Trump to foster lasting peace in the Middle East.
Both Egypt and Jordan are advocating for the creation of an independent Palestinian state, founded on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This vision aligns with the longstanding desire for Palestinian sovereignty and peace.
The phone conversation also underscored the importance of ensuring Gaza’s reconstruction does not result in further displacement of its people. This contrasts with U.S. President Trump’s controversial proposal to seize Gaza and relocate its residents.
Trump’s idea, which includes transforming Gaza into a development hub, was met with sharp opposition from both Palestinians and Arab leaders. The notion of taking control of Gaza has sparked widespread condemnation, especially given the dire conditions Palestinians have faced for years.
The Gaza Strip, under an 18-year Israeli blockade, has become the world’s largest open-air prison, where nearly 2 million residents suffer from severe shortages of food, water, and medical supplies.
As Gaza remains a symbol of resilience and struggle, the international community faces a pivotal moment in determining its future.
