Egypt has demanded an official explanation from Israel after its forces fired warning shots at a diplomatic delegation in Jenin.
The incident occurred during a visit to the refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, where Egypt’s ambassador to Ramallah was among the delegates.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry condemned the act, describing it as a blatant violation of diplomatic norms and international principles.
The delegation, which included several foreign envoys, was part of a visit organised by the Palestinian Foreign Ministry.
According to Egypt’s statement, Israeli forces fired live rounds while the diplomats were present in the area.
Israel’s military claimed the convoy had veered from an approved route and entered what it described as an active combat zone.
In response, Portugal, France, and Italy summoned Israeli ambassadors, demanding accountability and promising further diplomatic action.
Cairo urged Israel to provide a formal and transparent account of the circumstances surrounding the dangerous incident.
The shooting has raised serious concerns over the safety of diplomatic missions operating in volatile areas under Israeli control.
It also intensified scrutiny of Israel’s conduct in the West Bank amid ongoing military operations and rising international criticism.
