Egypt condemned Israel’s settlement expansion in the occupied Golan Heights, calling it a “flagrant violation of Syria’s sovereignty.”
On Sunday, the Israeli government approved a $11.2 million plan by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to expand settlements in the region.
Egypt said the move reflects Israel’s unwillingness to pursue peace and urged international action to stop such violations.
The Golan Heights, occupied by Israel since 1967, is home to 50,000 residents, half of whom are Israeli settlers.
Arab nations, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Iraq, joined Egypt in denouncing the decision.
The fallout follows Syria’s political upheaval, with anti-regime forces ousting Bashar Assad.
Israel has since intensified airstrikes and violated demilitarized zones, escalating regional tensions.
