Egypt emphasizes littoral states’ role in Red Sea security

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasized that the security of the Red Sea “depends solely on the will of its littoral states,” rejecting any military or naval presence by non-littoral countries.

This statement was made during a joint press conference with his Somali and Eritrean counterparts following a trilateral meeting in Cairo.

The meeting addressed various issues, including regional security, economic cooperation, and support for the Somali government in its efforts to extend its authority across the country.

Abdelatty also confirmed Egypt’s participation in the African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia, following approval from the Somali government and the African Union.

The Egyptian foreign minister highlighted the importance of regional cooperation and collaboration among littoral states in ensuring the security and stability of the Red Sea.
