Egypt’s foreign minister, Badr Abdelatty, has stated that the ongoing escalation in the Red Sea is directly linked to the Israeli war on Gaza.
He emphasized that halting the conflict is essential to restoring stability in the region.
Speaking at a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart in Moscow, Abdelatty highlighted the significant economic losses Egypt faces due to reduced Suez Canal revenue amidst the current tensions.
He stressed that the escalation poses a threat to the freedom of international navigation in the Red Sea.
As a major source of foreign currency for Egypt, the Suez Canal has experienced a decline in revenue due to the ongoing conflict.
Abdelatty urged an immediate ceasefire in Gaza to alleviate the tensions and protect the vital waterway.
