Egypt’s Sisi seeks Irish support for Palestinian cause

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi concluded his European tour with a visit to Ireland.

During his meetings with Irish President Michael D. Higgins and Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, the leaders discussed a range of issues, including the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip and bilateral cooperation.

Both leaders expressed deep concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and called for an immediate ceasefire and a long-term political solution.

Egypt and Ireland explored opportunities to strengthen their bilateral ties, particularly in areas such as trade, investment, and education.

Ireland pledged to provide humanitarian aid to Palestinians affected by the conflict and offered to provide medical assistance to injured children from Gaza.

The Irish Prime Minister raised the case of an Irish mother whose children have been detained in Egypt.

Sisi’s visit to Ireland marks a significant step in strengthening the relationship between the two countries.

Both nations are committed to promoting peace, security, and human rights in the region and beyond.
