Turkey aims to end African conflicts, FM says

Türkiye is committed to resolving conflicts in Africa and promoting peace and stability in the region, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Sunday.

Fidan emphasized that Türkiye’s Africa policy is comprehensive, encompassing economic, social, and security cooperation.

He highlighted the ongoing efforts to mediate between Ethiopia and Somalia, with three ministerial meetings held since July.

“We are working to tailor a framework to the needs of both parties,” Fidan said.

He stressed the importance of recognizing Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while also acknowledging Ethiopia’s need for sea access.

The foreign minister expressed deep concern over the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, calling the situation “sad and unbearable.”

He urged the international community to provide urgent humanitarian aid to millions of civilians suffering from the conflict.

Fidan reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to supporting the Sudanese people and emphasized the need to stop the ongoing conflict.

He noted that Türkiye is closely monitoring the Jeddah process, initiated by Saudi Arabia and the US, and is in contact with both parties involved.

However, he acknowledged that there has been no significant progress towards a ceasefire.
