Cameroon separatist arrested in Norway for incitement to crimes

Norwegian authorities arrested a man on suspicion of inciting crimes against humanity in Cameroon.

The individual, identified as Lucas Cho Ayaba, is a prominent leader of the Ambazonia Defence Forces, a separatist group operating in the country’s English-speaking regions.

The arrest was made by the Kripos police unit, which specializes in war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The Norwegian police said the suspect is believed to be central to the ongoing armed conflict in Cameroon, which has been marked by violence and human rights abuses.

The conflict in Cameroon’s anglophone regions began in 2016 after the government cracked down on peaceful protests.

Since then, thousands of people have been killed and displaced, and both government forces and separatists have been accused of atrocities.

Ayaba, a former student activist, has been living in Norway.

His arrest marks a significant development in the international pursuit of justice for the victims of the Cameroonian conflict.

If convicted, he could face up to 30 years in prison.
