Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed protecting vital trade routes and food supplies during a phone call.
The talks came as rising tensions in the Black Sea threaten agricultural supply chains carrying grain to North Africa.
“Ukraine is one of the largest food suppliers to Egypt,” Zelensky said in a social media post after the call.
He warned that ongoing conflicts were disrupting food exports to countries vulnerable to shortages and rising prices.
Sisi and Zelenskyy discussed measures to protect commercial shipping routes and strengthen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
Egypt reaffirmed its support for diplomatic solutions and called for swift political settlements to end regional hostilities.
Zelensky praised Egypt’s peace efforts and welcomed Cairo’s calls for de-escalation.
The two presidents also instructed their teams to work on agreements aimed at expanding bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
The discussions underscored Egypt’s role in addressing regional instability while protecting its economic and food security interests.
