Egypt’s Sisi urges Trump to stop conflict hitting markets

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi urged U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday to end the escalating war in the region.

Al-Sisi delivered his appeal during the ninth Egypt International Energy Conference and Exhibition (EGYPS 2026) in Cairo amid a worsening global energy crisis.

“I speak to you in the name of humanity and peace-loving people… Please help us stop the war,” he said emphatically.

He warned that the ongoing conflict has caused energy shortages, rising fuel prices, and disruptions in fertilizers and agricultural products across the region.

The Egyptian leader called for unified international efforts to halt the war and prevent further destabilisation in the Middle East.

The Strait of Hormuz has been effectively disrupted since early March, halting roughly 20% of the world’s daily oil supply.

Oil prices have surged amid fears of prolonged economic disruption, heightening anxiety across global markets and energy-dependent nations.

The conflict began on February 28 when the U.S. and Israel launched an air offensive on Iran, killing over 1,340 people, including the Supreme Leader.

Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting U.S. military assets, causing infrastructure damage.

The attacks have also disrupted aviation, regional trade, and energy transport, further intensifying fears of a long-term global economic impact.

Al-Sisi’s message highlights Egypt’s growing concern over instability in the region and the urgent need for diplomatic intervention to restore peace.
