The European Union has decided to recall its ambassador from Niger following accusations from the country’s ruling military junta regarding the mismanagement of humanitarian aid.
The junta alleges that the EU ambassador distributed a 1.3 million euro fund to international NGOs in a non-transparent manner, without consulting with the Nigerien authorities.
The EU strongly disagrees with these accusations and has initiated consultations to address the matter.
The move comes as tensions rise between the EU and the military junta, which took power in a coup last year.
