France in troop talks with UK, Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron has revealed that France is engaging in consultations with its partners, including the United Kingdom and Ukraine, regarding the potential deployment of troops to support Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.

Speaking to Le Parisien newspaper on Saturday, Macron did not provide specific details about the potential nature of such a troop presence.

“We are working on the presence and strategic footprint of the partner countries,” Macron stated.

He further explained that there have been ongoing discussions between the British, French, and Ukrainian chiefs of staff, who are coordinating with other partners to clarify and advance these plans.

“The key is to have troops in Ukraine,” he added, emphasizing the importance of a physical presence.

This development follows a period where major European powers, including France, advocated for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, receiving support from U.S. President Donald Trump.

Notably, Macron, along with leaders from Britain, Germany, and Poland, visited Kyiv and held a phone call with Trump, underscoring the international attention on the situation.
