Hamas has reportedly accepted a new ceasefire proposal for Gaza, a senior member from the group said on Monday. Mediators from Egypt and Qatar, backed by the United States, have struggled to secure a lasting truce in the brutal conflict.
A senior Hamas official said on Facebook that the group has submitted its response, agreeing to the new proposal from the mediators. The proposal has been sent to Israel, with Egypt saying the “ball is now in its court,” but Israel has not yet responded.
According to reports, the deal proposed a 60-day truce, a partial hostage release, and provisions for more aid into Gaza. A Palestinian source said mediators were expected to announce a deal had been reached, setting a new date for talks.
This diplomatic push comes after Israel’s security cabinet approved plans to expand the devastating war into Gaza City. US President Donald Trump wrote that all remaining hostages would only be released once Hamas is “confronted and destroyed.”
An Egyptian official stressed the urgency, stating that the current humanitarian situation on the ground is “beyond imagination.” The war, triggered by a Hamas attack, has tragically killed more than 62,000 Palestinians and 1,219 Israelis.
