House Democrats on Monday released what they say is a birthday letter Donald Trump wrote to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein more than two decades ago, a document the White House swiftly dismissed as inauthentic.
The note, reportedly drawn from Epstein’s 2003 “birthday book” turned over to Congress by his attorneys, appears to carry Trump’s signature. Trump has denied the card exists and says he did not sign it.
The page includes a stylized sketch of a naked woman and text presented as a dialogue between Trump and Epstein in which Trump calls Epstein a “pal” and adds, “May every day be another wonderful secret.”
White House deputy chief of staff Taylor Budowich rejected the release, posting on X that the signature is not Trump’s and referencing the president’s lawsuit against News Corp, parent of the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the book’s existence in July.
Epstein, who died by suicide in prison in 2019, continues to cast a political shadow. Republicans on the House Oversight Committee last week released more than 33,000 pages of Epstein-related files in an effort to stave off a bipartisan vote demanding further disclosures.
Victims and some lawmakers say the disclosures still fall short. “What is he hiding? Release the files!” House Democrats wrote on X on Monday, referring to Trump.
Since returning to the White House, Trump has repeatedly labeled the matter a Democrat-driven “hoax.”
