Iran: 935 killed in Israeli strikes over 12 days

Iranian authorities said Monday that 935 people were killed during a 12-day conflict with Israel, including 132 women and 38 children. Judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir, cited by Tasnim news agency, also claimed that Israeli strikes on Tehran’s Evin Prison killed 79 people—among them inmates, staff, and nearby residents.

Jahangir condemned the prison attack as a “blatant violation” of human rights, adding that the facility was rendered inoperable and prisoners had to be evacuated.

Earlier figures from Iran’s Health Ministry placed the toll at 606 dead and over 5,300 injured.

The conflict erupted on June 13 when Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iranian military, nuclear, and civilian targets. The United States also joined the assault, bombing Iran’s Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites.

In retaliation, Iran fired drones and missiles at Israeli territory, killing 29 and injuring more than 3,400 people, according to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

A U.S.-brokered ceasefire came into effect on June 24.
