Iranian MPs warn of US-Israel ‘trap’ ahead of next round of nuclear talks

Iran’s parliament on Tuesday accused the United States and Israel of trying to lure Tehran into a “strategic trap” at this week’s sixth round of nuclear negotiations.

“The United States is not negotiating in good faith,” the statement signed by dozens of lawmakers said. “Its sole aim is to impose its demands while denying the Iranian nation’s inalienable rights.”

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday the two sides remained divided over Iran’s right to enrich uranium, an issue Tehran insists is non-negotiable. While Trump put Thursday as the start date for the new talks, Iran’s foreign-ministry spokesman said the meetings would open Sunday in Oman.

Tehran plans to table a counter-proposal to Washington’s latest draft, arguing it offers too few details on lifting sanctions and ignores Iran’s enrichment demands.

“The only acceptable agreement is one that permanently removes all sanctions and delivers tangible economic benefits to the Iranian people,” the lawmakers said.

Previous rounds of indirect talks have failed to resolve core disputes over enrichment levels, the scope of sanctions relief and the sequencing of reciprocal steps.
