Israel deploys troops to northern border as tensions peak with Hezbollah

Israel has stationed troops along its northern border following earlier announcements of preparations for a potential ground offensive in Lebanon. This escalation follows the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Israeli airstrikes on Beirut, prompting a stern warning from Iran’s Supreme Leader that his death “will not go unavenged.”

Fighting between Israel and Hezbollah has intensified, with Israeli strikes in Lebanon reportedly resulting in hundreds of deaths. In Beirut, many families are now left homeless, sleeping in the streets due to the ongoing bombardment.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed grave concern over the situation, cautioning that the world “cannot afford for Lebanon to become another Gaza.”

Israel’s military campaign aims to secure the safe return of tens of thousands of residents displaced from northern Israel by Hezbollah rocket attacks. Earlier this month, Israel set the return of these residents as an official war objective.

Hezbollah claims its actions are in solidarity with Palestinians and insists it will continue fighting until a ceasefire is reached in Gaza.
