One thousand Israeli Air Force reservists have issued a letter demanding an end to the Gaza war to secure the release of captives held by Hamas.
The reservists stated the ongoing conflict serves “political and personal interests” and endangers hostages, soldiers, and civilians.
They advocate for an agreement as the only safe path for the hostages’ return.
Former army chief Dan Halutz is among the signatories of the letter published in Israeli media.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed the reservists as “fringe extremists” aiming to destabilize Israeli society and undermine the government.
Defense Minister Israel Katz criticized the letter for eroding the war’s legitimacy.
Haaretz daily reports the air force chief intends to dismiss active reservists who signed the letter.
Separately, nearly 150 Navy officers petitioned for an end to the war and hostage release.
Channel 12 News reports that hundreds from the Armored Corps and Navy reserves have joined the call.
Furthermore, dozens of military reserve doctors have sent a petition demanding an immediate halt to the Gaza fighting for the hostages’ return.
They expressed that the war now serves political gains over security objectives. Israel estimates 59 hostages remain in Gaza, with at least 22 alive.
A potential ceasefire agreement involving a full Israeli withdrawal was disrupted by renewed Israeli military action.
Over 50,800 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since October 7, 2023.
