Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump concluded the first round of negotiations on a Ukraine settlement in Alaska on Saturday, the Kremlin said.
The talks in Anchorage lasted more than three hours in a small-format setting with top diplomats and envoys from both sides. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and presidential aide Yury Ushakov joined Putin, while U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Steve Witkoff accompanied Trump.
It was the first direct meeting between the Russian and American leaders in over four years, since Putin’s summit with then-President Joe Biden in Geneva in 2021.
For Putin, the visit marked his first trip to the United States in a decade; he last traveled to New York in 2015 to attend the UN General Assembly.
