Report links Israeli military to majority of explosive deaths

More than half of all civilian deaths caused by explosive weapons globally in 2025 were linked to the Israeli military, according to a striking new report by the Explosive Weapons Monitor.

The watchdog documented 22,600 global civilian deaths from explosive ordnance this year, attributing a staggering 56 percent of those casualties to Israeli military operations.

The findings also reveal a bleak landscape for aid workers, as explosive attacks impacting humanitarian assistance surged by 52 percent over the past year.

Crucially, the report notes that roughly 90 percent of these targeting incidents were concentrated in Palestinian territory, where prolonged military campaigns have crippled local infrastructure.

“When explosive weapons are used in populated areas, civilians suffer,” warned Katherine Young, the organization’s research and monitoring manager, as she reflected on the devastating metrics.

“What is particularly alarming is that this harm has become persistent across conflicts worldwide,” Young added, signaling a dangerous trend toward the normalisation of civilian suffering on a massive scale.
