
Russia and African nations have announced a joint commitment to establishing a high-level dialogue to address pressing security concerns, following the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum held in Sochi on November 10.
In a joint statement, officials reaffirmed their intention to create a “top-level Russia-Africa dialogue mechanism.” This initiative aims to strengthen peace, stability, and security while addressing pressing issues, including terrorism, extremism, and environmental and food security.
Participants expressed alarm over the surge in terrorist activities in various African regions, underscoring the importance of “African Solutions to African Problems” for conflict resolution. The approach highlights Africa’s unique ability to handle regional challenges with local knowledge and strategies.
The statement stressed the necessity of collective efforts to bolster international peace frameworks, emphasizing equal and indivisible security as guiding principles. Leaders highlighted the importance of tackling the underlying causes of both internal and cross-border conflicts.
In a clear commitment to global stability, the statement reaffirmed support for the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Leaders agreed that swift implementation of the treaty remains crucial to the international security structure.
The statement also addressed rising conflicts in the Middle East, specifically developments in Gaza and Lebanon. The group reiterated support for Palestine’s bid for United Nations membership, highlighting a shared concern for lasting peace in the region.
