South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday urged world leaders to pressure Israel to cease its attacks in Gaze and Lebanon.
Speaking at an event marking 100 days in power, Ramaphosa called for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and humanitarian aid to reach those affected.
The ANC, South Africa’s ruling party since 1994, lost its majority in the May elections, forcing it to form a coalition government.
Ramaphosa announced that his government would soon submit its case to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in support of the people of Palestine against the genocide committed in Palestine, particularly in Gaza.
South Africa has been a strong supporter of the Palestinian people and has filed a case at the ICJ against Israel, accusing it of violating the 1948 Genocide Convention through its bombings in Gaza.
Several countries, including Türkiye, Nicaragua, Palestine, Spain, Mexico, Libya, and Colombia, have joined the case.
In May, the ICJ ordered Israel to halt its offensive in Rafah, Gaza.
This was the third time the court issued preliminary orders to reduce casualties and alleviate suffering in the blockaded enclave, where over 42,200 people have been killed.
