Syria’s new administration arrests 300 Assad remnant soldiers

Syrian authorities have arrested nearly 300 individuals, including informants, pro-regime fighters, and former soldiers, in a crackdown on loyalists to ousted president Bashar al-Assad, according to a war monitor.

Since Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group ousted Assad three weeks ago, the new Syrian authorities have intensified efforts to consolidate power.

A large-scale security operation targeting Assad’s militias was launched on Thursday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that arrests have taken place across the country, including Damascus, Homs, Hama, Tartus, Latakia, and Deir Ezzor.

Among those detained are former regime informants, pro-Iranian fighters, and lower-ranking military officers accused of crimes like torture and murder.

The Observatory also reported that some individuals, including informants, were summarily executed after detention.

The new head of General Intelligence, Anas Khattab, has vowed to reform the security apparatus, denouncing the “injustice and tyranny” of the former regime.
