The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) unveiled the Sustainable Poultry Farming for Women’s Economic Empowerment Project in Tanzania’s Tegeta region on Wednesday.
The initiative aims to boost women’s income opportunities while providing local communities with healthy and affordable protein sources, according to a TIKA statement.
Thirty women entrepreneurs completed training in technical poultry farming, small business management, and marketing, equipping them with skills to run sustainable operations.
After the programme, participants received starter packages containing essential equipment and materials to launch their poultry production immediately.
To improve efficiency, the project supplied poultry feed processing equipment, a high-capacity incubator, and modern cooling systems for enhanced productivity.
A dedicated mobile vehicle was also allocated to distribute eggs across nearby areas, reducing logistics costs and ensuring product freshness.
The launch ceremony included representatives from Türkiye’s Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Kinondoni District officials, Turkish and Tanzanian authorities, and local cooperative members.
TIKA has implemented around 350 projects in Tanzania to date, spanning agriculture, livestock, education, health, women’s empowerment, and civil infrastructure.
The initiative reflects Türkiye’s ongoing commitment to supporting sustainable development and women-led economic growth in East Africa.
