Two Britons detained in Iran and charged with spying, judiciary reports

Two British nationals arrested in Iran have been formally charged with espionage, accused of collecting sensitive information across several regions of the country, according to Iran’s judiciary-affiliated Mizan news agency.

The individuals, identified as Craig and Lindsay Foreman, were named by the British Foreign Office. Their family confirmed on Saturday that they are in contact with the relevant authorities to ensure the couple’s well-being and secure their return home.

Mizan’s report claims the Foremans entered Iran as tourists but were allegedly involved in gathering intelligence across various provinces. While the news agency did not provide further details, British media outlets have identified the pair as a married couple.

A judicial official, cited by Mizan, stated that the couple is believed to have ties to intelligence agencies, with investigations into their alleged associations continuing.

In recent years, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have detained numerous foreigners and dual nationals, often accusing them of espionage or posing security risks. Critics, including human rights organizations and some Western nations, have argued that such arrests are part of a strategy by Iran to leverage prisoners for political or diplomatic gains. Tehran, however, has consistently denied these allegations.
