US can halt Iran oil exports, says energy chief

U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said Friday that Washington has the means to stop Iran’s oil exports, signaling a potential tightening of sanctions to pressure Tehran over its nuclear program.

Speaking to Reuters during a visit to Abu Dhabi, Wright said America’s Gulf allies are deeply concerned about the prospect of a nuclear-armed Iran and share the U.S. position that such an outcome must be prevented.

He added that under President Donald Trump’s energy policies, the global outlook for oil demand and supply remains strong, and market concerns over economic growth will ultimately prove unfounded.
