A 23-year-old Palestinian-American, Saif al-Din Kamil Abdul Karim Musalat, died Friday after settlers assaulted him in the hilltop community of Sinjil, north of Ramallah, Palestinian health officials said.
Witnesses told local media that a group of settlers attacked Musalat with clubs and stones during a clash that followed an alleged rock-throwing incident on the main Road 60. Medics were blocked from reaching him for nearly four hours, relatives said; he was pronounced dead shortly after reaching hospital.
The Israeli army confirmed “violent confrontation involving vandalism, arson and rock-throwing” and said two Israelis were lightly injured. A joint army-police investigation is under way.
Footage from Ramallah showed hundreds of mourners carrying Musalat’s body, wrapped in a Palestinian flag, through the city streets. The U.S. State Department said it was aware of the death but declined further comment, citing family privacy.
Tensions have soared across the occupied West Bank since the Gaza war began in October 2023. According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, Israeli forces or settlers have killed at least 954 Palestinians in the territory during that period.
