President Donald Trump announced that the United States is close to securing a minerals deal with Ukraine.
Speaking to a gathering of conservatives in Maryland, Trump said the potential agreement would allow the U.S. to share revenue from Ukrainian minerals.
He emphasized that the deal is part of efforts to recover billions of dollars in military aid sent to Ukraine during the ongoing war.
“We’re pretty close to a deal,” Trump said, addressing the crowd on the outskirts of Washington, D.C., on Saturday.
Trump suggested that Ukraine could provide rare earth minerals, oil, or any other valuable resources in return for U.S. support.
The United States has supplied Ukraine with military aid to help resist Russian aggression since the full-scale invasion began in 2022.
Trump’s remarks come as international negotiations continue over Ukraine’s reconstruction and future economic stability.
The president did not provide further details on the potential timeline or specific terms of the agreement.
The Biden administration has not yet responded to Trump’s statements regarding the reported mineral-sharing deal.
