US expresses concern as Israel targets Syria

The United States on Thursday voiced opposition to recent Israeli strikes in Syria as it emerged just a day after Washington brokered a significant peace deal.

The US government emphasized its diplomatic engagement with both nations.

State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce confirmed the US position.

She stated clearly, “The United States did not support recent Israeli strikes.”

Bruce declined to elaborate on any specific US reprimand towards Israel. She also would not commit on future US opposition to such strikes.

The delicate diplomatic balance remains a key focus. Washington seeks a lasting agreement between the two sovereign states.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed his own concerns regarding the Israeli actions.

These strikes notably included an attack on the defense ministry in Damascus. His statement, however, broadened its focus. It addressed the general escalation of violence without direct reference to Israel.

President Donald Trump engaged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a phone call.

President Trump told Netanyahu that he has aligned with Turkey and Saudi Arabia. Their shared goal is to foster improved relations with Syria’s new leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa.
