The United States has informed Israel that it intends to escalate military operations against Iran over the coming days, Israeli media reported on Sunday, as Israeli authorities raised their level of preparedness for a possible widening of the conflict.
Israel’s public broadcaster Kan cited two sources — one Israeli and one American — as saying Washington had notified Tel Aviv of plans to intensify strikes on Iran in the coming days. The report did not provide further details about the expected scale or targets of the operations.
Israel’s Channel 12, meanwhile, quoted a senior Israeli official as saying the country’s security establishment had been placed on high alert.
The official warned that Israel could be forced to return to “intense fighting” against Iran in the coming days if the situation deteriorates further.
The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Israel was waiting for an opportunity to re-enter the war against Iran, while noting that Washington currently controls the pace and timing of military escalation.
Earlier on Sunday, the Hebrew-language news website Walla cited Israeli officials as saying Iran was likely to carry out further attacks following a missile strike targeting the Jordanian port city of Aqaba.
Four missiles were reportedly launched from Iranian territory toward Aqaba, prompting Israel to activate two Iron Dome missile-defence batteries to prevent debris from falling inside Israeli territory.
The Israeli military is continuing to monitor military activity across Iran amid concerns that further attacks could target Israel or neighbouring countries.
Sources within Israel’s defence establishment said Tehran appeared to want Israel to interpret the missile launches as a warning message.
However, they argued that the regional security environment had changed significantly since 2023, suggesting that Israel and its allies were now prepared to respond more aggressively to Iranian attacks.
