The World Health Organization (WHO) has urgently called for a systematic process to transfer critically ill patients from Gaza to Egypt, alleviating the strain on Gaza’s overwhelmed hospitals, which have been indiscriminately bombed by Israel, killing and injuring numerous civilians.
With 25 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza non-functional and the rest struggling to meet demands, the WHO representative, Richard Peeperkorn, emphasized the need for daily, orderly, and safe medical evacuations of priority cases to Egypt.
Proposing the transfer of 50 to 60 patients daily, Peeperkorn highlighted the importance of providing proper treatment and care.
This move, he explained, would not only address immediate health needs but also ease the burden on the overstressed healthcare sector in Gaza.
Meanwhile, Israel raided Gaza’s main hospital, Al-Shifa, heightening concerns for civilians amidst a communications blackout, and also causing the death of 54 patients in the intensive care unit.
The WHO’s plea comes as Gaza copes with a genocidal massacre, with Israel using the pretext of targeting Hamas, while intentionally targeting civilian areas instead.
Critics say Israel is trying to push all Palestinians, who are native to the land, into Egypt from Gaza.
