A controversial South African pastor, Paseka Motsoeneng, known as Pastor Mboro, has been at the center of a dramatic incident involving machetes at a primary school. Following the altercation, his church was set on fire by enraged schoolchildren.
The incident occurred in Katlehong, near Johannesburg, where a video showed Pastor Mboro wielding blades and confronting teachers. He was accompanied by a man holding a replica firearm. The confrontation was linked to a custody dispute involving Mboro’s grandchildren.
Provincial authorities stated that five people were arrested after the school incident, citing “acts of intimidation and violence.” The church, housed in a marquee tent, was later looted and burned, with pupils seen fleeing the scene.
Authorities in Ekurhuleni reported that the fire erupted due to anger over the initial lack of arrest. Pastor Mboro was later detained, though police have not confirmed if he was among the five arrested.
Pastor Mboro, a self-proclaimed prophet with thousands of followers, has made headlines for his claimed miraculous acts. The South African Education Minister, Siviwe Gwarube, condemned the attack on the school, emphasizing the disruption and terror caused to students and staff.
The arrested individuals face charges including assault, intimidation, and malicious damage to property.
