A Sudanese military aircraft (SAF) bombed a gathering of civilians in the Wad Abu Saleh area, east of the Nile River, on Friday, resulting in an unknown number of casualties.
Though official figures have yet to be confirmed, initial reports suggest the death toll could reach dozens.
The crowd had reportedly assembled to protest the presence of General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) at the Al-Jili oil refinery, a strategic installation in the region. Tensions have been rising, with many fearing that the military’s control of the refinery could escalate the violence between rival factions in Sudan’s ongoing conflict.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as the airstrike hit the protest, with many fearing for the safety of their loved ones who had joined the demonstration.
Local sources expressed deep concern over SAF’s continued indiscriminate targeting of civilian gatherings as the conflict drags on.
With Sudan gripped by increasing violence, this latest attack has further heightened tensions and drawn international attention to the country’s deepening humanitarian crisis.
