Kenya accused of role in Ugandan opposition leader’s arrest

A Ugandan lawyer has accused Kenyan authorities of playing a significant role in the arrest and extradition of prominent opposition figure Kizza Besigye.

Despite initial denials from Kenyan officials, the lawyer suggests that Kenyan authorities were involved in the “illegal extraction” of Besigye from Nairobi.

This incident has sparked international condemnation, with concerns raised about the erosion of democratic freedoms and the targeting of political opponents in Uganda.

The Ugandan government, however, maintains that the arrest and extradition were conducted with the knowledge of Kenyan authorities.

The arrest of Besigye and the deportation of other opposition figures highlight the increasing authoritarian tendencies of the Ugandan government and the challenges faced by political dissent in the country.
