U.S. President Donald Trump declared that Palestinians would have no right to return to Gaza under his redevelopment proposal for the enclave.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump stated he could negotiate with Jordan and Egypt to accept displaced Palestinians, citing billions of dollars in U.S. aid.
Asked directly if Palestinians would be allowed to return, Trump responded: “No, they wouldn’t because they’re going to have much better housing.”
He elaborated on his vision, saying he aimed to build permanent settlements, arguing Gaza is uninhabitable and would take years to rebuild.
Last week, Trump’s proposal to permanently resettle Gaza’s 2.2 million Palestinians sent shockwaves through the international community.
His latest comments confirm that his plan does not include the right of return, a stance already rejected by Palestinian leaders and Saudi Arabia.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cautiously endorsed the idea, stating displaced Palestinians could “leave, then come back” once Gaza is rebuilt.
Trump, however, went further, reiterating his controversial ambition to “own” Gaza and develop it like a real estate project.
In newly released interview excerpts, he suggested constructing between two and six new communities for Palestinians, “a little bit away from where they are.”
“This would be a beautiful piece of land,” Trump said. “No big money spent, and I would own this.”
His remarks have triggered fierce global debate, with critics questioning the feasibility and legality of his sweeping vision.
