US President Donald Trump announced Monday that he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea in the coming weeks. Speaking at the White House while hosting Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Trump said he expects to reach a “fair deal” with Beijing.
“I believe after we leave South Korea … we’re going to have a very good relationship with China,” Trump added optimistically. The discussions are expected to cover multiple issues, though Trump did not provide details on the specific topics to be addressed.
Trump also revealed that he has been invited to visit China, with plans for the trip scheduled “fairly early next year.” His statements come after a tense week in US-China trade relations, following his threat to impose a 100% tariff on Chinese imports.
Trump outlined his Asia tour this week, mentioning visits to Malaysia, Japan, and other countries, describing the trip as a diplomatic “tour.” Malaysia will host an ASEAN summit, anticipated to draw Trump and his delegation to engage with regional leaders and policy agendas.
Additionally, Trump said Albanese invited him to visit Australia, describing the prospect as “a real possibility” under serious consideration. The forthcoming meetings signal a renewed effort to stabilise US-China relations amid trade tensions and regional diplomatic initiatives.
