Ethiopia urges Europe to invest, partner in green economic growth

Ethiopian State Minister of Finance Semereta Sewasew met European Commissioner Jozef Síkela in Brussels to strengthen critical bilateral ties.

The high-level discussions aimed to inject fresh energy into trade, investment, and sustainable economic transformation between the two partners.

Sewasew warmly welcomed a recent European Union budget support agreement, calling it a vital vote of confidence in Ethiopia.

The Horn of Africa nation is actively seeking European capital to power its renewable energy, digital technology, and manufacturing sectors.

Both leaders explored aligning Ethiopia’s development goals with Europe’s Global Gateway strategy through modern blended finance and investment guarantees.

The talks also focused on protecting sustainable coffee supply chains while conforming to strict new European Union deforestation regulations.

Ethiopia further invited European collaboration on climate finance and green projects ahead of hosting the upcoming COP32 climate summit.

Both representatives ultimately pledged to turn these shared economic ambitions into real, prosperous initiatives for their citizens.
