Israel has rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s 15-point “Board of Peace” plan for Gaza and will not withdraw its forces from the territory until Hamas has fully disarmed, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday.
Netanyahu’s comments cast fresh uncertainty over U.S.-led efforts to advance the next phase of the Gaza agreement, despite Trump saying last month that a breakthrough had been reached.
Israel and Hamas agreed last year to a U.S.-backed framework aimed at ending the Gaza war, beginning with a ceasefire that took effect in October.
However, Israeli forces have continued to carry out strikes in Gaza since the ceasefire began, while disputes over disarmament, Israeli withdrawal and the territory’s post-war administration have repeatedly complicated efforts to move the agreement forward.
Trump has said Hamas agreed to surrender its weapons as part of the proposed arrangement.
Hamas governed Gaza for nearly two decades before carrying out the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel that triggered the war.
Netanyahu’s rejection of the 15-point proposal indicates that significant differences remain between Israel and Washington over the conditions required for a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and the implementation of the broader peace plan.
