More than 6,000 Ebola infections have been confirmed in the Democratic Republic of Congo, making the epidemic the largest ever recorded in the country, according to government figures released on Monday.
The Communications Ministry said the number of confirmed cases had risen to 6,041, including 2,911 deaths.
The latest figures surpass those recorded during Congo’s previous worst Ebola outbreak, which lasted from 2018 to 2020.
The current epidemic is being driven by the Bundibugyo strain of the virus, for which there are currently no approved vaccines or treatments.
Emergency response teams are operating across six affected provinces, with authorities concentrating their efforts on Ituri, North Kivu and Haut-Uele, the ministry said in a statement on X.
