8 students in Nigeria have been rescued

“Eight university students abducted by armed individuals in Nigeria’s northern Kogi state last month have been rescued,” the statement said.

Emmanuel Emekah, Vice President of Operations for the Nigerian Army, stated that they conducted operations against armed individuals in Kogi state.

Emekah announced that the eight students abducted by armed individuals had been rescued.

Emekah noted that the students were in good health and had been handed over to the Governor of Kogi.

Armed individuals kidnapped numerous individuals during an attack on Confluence University in the Osara area on May 9.

Kingsley Fanwo, Commissioner for Information and Communication in Kogi State, had previously stated that some students were rescued during intense clashes between local security forces and armed individuals.

Nigeria has recently been subjected to attacks by armed gangs as well as terrorist organizations such as Boko Haram and ISWAP, the West African branch of ISIS.

Additionally, despite the death penalty, kidnapping for ransom is frequently reported in the country. Armed individuals and gang members often target villages, schools, and travelers in northern Nigeria to demand ransom.
