TotalEnergies has announced a new oil discovery in Angola as the French energy company expands its operations in the country.
The Angola oil discovery, known as Acacia-5, was made in Block 17. It is expected to add around 6,000 barrels of oil per day to production.
TotalEnergies plans to bring the project into production only three months after the discovery. The company will use existing infrastructure linked to the Pazflor floating production facility.
Angola oil discovery boosts production
Acacia-5 is TotalEnergies’ second exploration success in Angola in 2026.
Earlier this year, the company recorded another discovery in Block 0 in the Lower Congo Basin. TotalEnergies holds a 10% interest in that block alongside Chevron.
Business Insider Africa reported that the latest discovery comes as TotalEnergies strengthens its oil portfolio in Angola.
Existing offshore infrastructure could also help the company develop new resources faster and at a lower cost.
TotalEnergies adds two exploration blocks
Meanwhile, TotalEnergies is expanding its exploration portfolio in the country.
The company has signed agreements with Angola’s National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG) for two additional exploration areas.
Under the agreements, TotalEnergies will acquire a 40% operated interest in Blocks 17/25 and 32/21 in the Lower Congo Basin.
Both blocks already have extensive 3D seismic data. They are also close to existing TotalEnergies infrastructure.
Six floating production, storage and offloading units currently operate in Blocks 17 and 32. As a result, future discoveries could potentially connect to existing facilities.
TotalEnergies plans further Angola investment
Angola remains an important part of TotalEnergies’ African operations.
CEO Patrick Pouyanné has said the company and its partners plan to invest $10 billion in Angola over the next five years.
TotalEnergies has operated in the country since 1953.
In 2025, the company’s Angola operations produced around 156,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
The latest Angola oil discovery and new exploration agreements could further expand the company’s presence in the country’s energy sector.
