AU chair candidates demand UN security council seats

Three candidates vying for the position of African Union Chairperson have emphasized the need for greater African representation on the United Nations Security Council.

During a recent debate, Raila Odinga of Kenya, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf of Djibouti, and Richard Randriamandrato of Madagascar all strongly advocated for two permanent seats for African countries on the UN Security Council, arguing that it is essential for the continent to have a stronger voice in global affairs.

The candidates also addressed other critical issues facing the African continent, including regional security, economic integration, and political stability. They emphasized the need for increased intra-African trade, strengthened regional security mechanisms, and a more effective and responsive African Union.

The upcoming election for the African Union Chairperson will be closely watched, with the successful candidate expected to play a crucial role in addressing the continent’s challenges and promoting peace, security, and development.
