Chartered plane crash-lands in southern Nigeria, two critically injured

A small chartered aircraft travelling from Kaduna crash-landed at Sam Mbakwe International Airport in Owerri, in Nigeria’s southern Imo state, leaving two of the four people on board in critical condition.

The aircraft had been en route to Port Harcourt when it made an emergency landing at the threshold of Runway 17. Emergency responders quickly evacuated the occupants, with the two most seriously injured passengers transferred to a nearby military hospital for urgent treatment.

Aviation authorities confirmed that the incident involved a light aircraft and said investigators had been notified shortly after the crash. Airport emergency services were deployed immediately, no fire was reported, and flight operations were not disrupted.

Officials said arrangements are under way to remove the aircraft from the runway area so a full technical examination of the wreckage can be carried out to determine the cause of the incident.
