Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has reiterated his commitment to Sudan’s unity and a transition to civilian rule as the conflict with General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) enters its 21st month.
In an audio statement, Daglo rejected proposals from some members of the anti-war Tagadum bloc to establish a separate government in RSF-controlled regions. He emphasized the RSF’s dedication to a unified Sudan and outlined a vision for a “new Sudan” built on democratic principles of freedom, justice, and peace.
Daglo dismissed any form of discrimination based on religion, ethnicity, or culture and proposed the creation of a professional, unified army under civilian leadership, stressing that the RSF does not intend to replace the SAF.
The message comes amid ongoing resistance from SAF leadership, which has refused to negotiate with the RSF. The SAF continues to demand the group’s dissolution and the integration of its Sudanese members into the national army.
Acknowledging concerns over lawlessness in RSF-controlled areas, Daglo expressed regret for violations committed by some members of his forces. He pledged to intensify efforts to crack down on rogue elements and hold them accountable.
“The outlaws are our enemy, just as much as the enemy we have been fighting since April 15, 2023,” he stated, instructing RSF troops to prioritize civilian protection and property security.
Concluding his speech, Dagalo underscored the RSF’s determination to pursue peace, unity, and justice, vowing to contribute to the creation of a “new Sudan” through the sacrifices of its people.
The RSF has been embroiled in a protracted conflict with General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) since April 2023, leading to widespread devastation and displacement across the country.
