China offers military aid to help Africa combat insecurity

During the final leg of his four-nation African tour, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s commitment to assisting African countries in establishing a rapid response force to address the continent’s growing security challenges.

In a joint press conference with Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar in Abuja, Wang emphasized China’s dedication to the Global Security Initiative and its aim to foster a shared future for the China-Africa community.

To support this initiative, China pledged to provide:

  • $135 million in military assistance grants to African countries.
  • Training for 6,000 military personnel and 1,000 police and law enforcement officers.

These commitments aim to enhance Africa’s capacity to counter terrorism, maintain peace, and address other security threats effectively.

This announcement underscores China’s continued engagement in Africa and its commitment to strengthening security cooperation with the continent.
