Schools in Kassala, eastern Sudan, have resumed classes after a four-week closure due to a cholera outbreak.
The decision to reopen came after a decrease in reported cases.
The Kassala Ministry of Education announced the reopening of all schools on September 1, following the closure ordered in late August.
The ministry evacuated over 22 schools being used as shelters for displaced people to prepare for the reopening.
The Kassala Ministry of Health reported a decrease in cholera cases, with Kassala locality recording the highest number of infections.
As of Friday, the cumulative number of cholera cases in Kassala reached 5,728, including 178 deaths.
Nationally, the cumulative number of cholera cases in 10 states has risen to 15,577, with 506 deaths.
The ongoing civil war between the Burhan-controlled SAF and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has contributed to the spread of diseases due to damaged infrastructure and severe hunger.
The authorities in Ed Debba, Northern State, have ordered the closure of schools and markets to prevent further spread of cholera.
