Egyptian authorities are continuing their investigation into the targeting of two vessels at Damietta Port as they work to determine the full circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible, the Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the ministry accused some foreign media outlets of publishing “inaccurate and misleading information” about the incident.
It urged international news organisations to exercise caution and rely on official Egyptian sources when reporting on the attack and other matters involving the country.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said Egypt had responded to the incident through a coordinated crisis-management operation involving multiple state institutions.
According to a statement issued by the Egyptian cabinet, the armed forces, Interior Ministry and security and intelligence agencies began technical inspections and evidence analysis immediately after the attack.
Specialist teams boarded one of the vessels to examine the damage and inspect debris believed to have come from a drone.
Madbouly said investigators had established key details about the incident, but security agencies were still analysing the evidence to determine where the drone was launched and which party carried out the attack.
Egyptian officials have not yet publicly identified a suspect or disclosed further information about the condition of the two vessels.
